CNN says: “Bicyclists still account for fewer than 1% of all commuters. However, some large cities more than doubled their rate of bike commuters. Here’s a look at cities with growing populations who commute to work by bicycle.
Monday begins National Bike to Work Week – Monday, May 12th through Friday, May 16th, WIBC will be promoting all of our members, their friends and family to bike to work! YOU CAN DO IT!
If you live a long distance from work, think about loading the bike in the car, driving to a convenient distance from work and riding the rest of the way. However you choose to log miles next week we hope part of it will be biking and promoting the “bike to work” ethic.

Logging your biking miles: CNN was able to come up with biking stats partly due to statistics they received from national & regional biking organizations (like us), the League of American Bicyclists, other “like bike” organizations, and the US Census. Help WIBC continue to offer our regional stats to local, regional and national decision makers about biking through our “Most Miles in May” log. Locally WE need to be able to illustrate, with credible statistics, the benefits of bicycling in a way that resonates with those who are making decisions about our roads, our intersections, our trails and Whidbey’s community of cyclists.
Anyone can start a WIBC Most Miles in May log. Haven’t started logging yet? NO WORRIES – start now. Win prizes, ride, ride, ride. We ONLY combine and share the miles ridden as a group, we do not share your name in the stats collected. NO email addresses, phone #’s or physical addresses required to sign up and log miles. Click the Bike Challenge MOST MILES IN MAY image! Let’s rock the stats!
